Cheltenham Racecourse Walk

2.5 miles (4 km)

This circular walk takes you around the perimeter of Cheltenham Racecourse on public footpaths. It's a 2.5 mile walk, starting from the car park along New Barn Lane.
Despite its short length, the walk provides an excellent introduction to the landscape at the foot of the Cotswold Escarpment.... The route passes open fields and quiet countryside on the northern edge of Cheltenham, with fine views towards Cleeve Hill, the highest point in the Cotswolds, and the surrounding limestone hills that form part of the Cotswold Way National Trail.
Cheltenham Racecourse is one of the world's most famous horse racing venues and hosts the annual Cheltenham Festival, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each March. Outside the racing season the surrounding public footpaths provide a peaceful contrast to the crowds, with views across the grandstands, training grounds and neighbouring countryside.
The walk finishes close to the racecourse, while Cheltenham town centre lies a short distance to the south. The elegant Regency spa town is known for its tree-lined promenades, fine Georgian architecture, Montpellier Gardens, independent shops, cafés and year-round programme of literature, music and food festivals.
