The Dee Coastal Path at Saltney. The River Dee was canalised in 1737 to try and maintain a deep water channel through the salt marshes (Salt Ney) for trade into Chester. This must have been a partial success as industry was established along the banks of the river for many years, however, the channel eventually silted up and trade died. Nevertheless, in the recent past, Airbus Industries have started to use a shallow draft barge to move the huge A380 wings up river to Mostyn Docks for onward transportation by sea. The footbridge at Saltney Ferry is near here.
