Doffcocker Lodge
This short circular walk explores the Doffcocker Lodge Nature Reserve in Bolton.
The reserve is located on the western fringes of the town and includes footpaths taking you around woodland and a lake. You can start the walk from the car park at the eastern end of the site. It's located at Back Arnold Terrace with a postcode off BL1 5SH. From here you can pick up a circular trail taking you around the lake to the west. It's a pleasant, easy walk where you can look out for a variety of birdlife on the water.

Pubs/Cafes
At the eastern end of the site you could enjoy some post walk refreshment at the Doffcocker Inn. There's a charming old interior with cosy fireplaces and wood panelling. There's also a garden area for warmer days. You can find the pub at 780 Chorley Old Rd, BL1 5QD. Just across the road there's also the Hope & Anchor Inn which is another friendly, old fashioned pub close to the reserve.
Dog Walking
The site is popular with dog walkers so you'll probably see other owners on your visit. The Hope and Anchor mentioned above is also dog friendly.
Further Information and Other Local Ideas
Smithills Country Park is located just a short distance to the north east. It's a nice place to extend your walk with attractive parkland and gardens surrounding the old hall.
To the west of Bolton there's a nice circular trail to be found around High Rid Reservoir. The small lake is a good place for spotting wildfowl.
