Marazion to Perranuthnoe Coastal Walk
2.2 miles (3.6 km)This walk follows the South West Coast Path from Marazion to Perranuthnoe. The 2.2 mile walk starts in Marazion opposite the historic St Michael's Mount.... From here you follow the waymarked path east past Basore Point, The Greeb and Perran Sands before arriving in Perranuthnoe.
This attractive section of the Cornish coast explores the eastern side of Mount's Bay, following a route between two of the area's most appealing seaside villages. Throughout the walk there are excellent views across the bay to St Michael's Mount, whose castle and church rise dramatically above the tidal island. Looking west, views extend towards Penzance and Newlyn, while to the south the open waters of the English Channel stretch to the horizon.
After leaving Marazion the path climbs gently onto the slopes of The Greeb, a prominent headland of grassland and scrub which provides one of the finest viewpoints in Mount's Bay. The elevated position gives a broad panorama of the surrounding coastline and a different perspective on St Michael's Mount than that seen from the town. The cliffs and coastal slopes support a variety of seabirds and wildflowers, particularly during the spring and summer months.
Further east the route passes above Perran Sands, a small sandy beach backed by dunes and low cliffs. The beach sits below the historic church of St Piran and marks the approach to Perranuthnoe, a traditional Cornish village with a long association with fishing, coastal trade and smuggling. The sheltered beach, attractive harbour setting and views across Mount's Bay make it a rewarding destination and a fitting end to one of the best short walks on Cornwall's south coast.
To continue your walking in the area you could try the St Michaels Way or the Penzance to Marazion Coastal Path Walk.
