Scolty Hill Walk

2.2 miles (3.5 km)

This circular walk climbs to the General William Burnett Monument on Scolty Hill near Banchory.
The walk starts from the car park and heads west to climb the hill. The trail rises through peaceful woodland before emerging on open ground with expanding views over the Dee Valley and the surrounding Aberdeenshire countryside.... The landscape gradually opens as the slope is gained, revealing the river below, farmland patterns and distant hills.
At the top stands the General William Burnett Monument, a prominent stone tower built in the 19th century to honour the local military figure General Sir William Burnett. The tower can usually be climbed, giving an additional vantage point over Banchory, the Hill of Fare and westwards towards the Cairngorms on a clear day. The return route descends through the trees once more, completing a rewarding short hill walk with a notable historical landmark at its summit.
