This beautiful walk explores some of the finest scenery in Wensleydale, combining dramatic waterfalls, peaceful riverside paths and attractive Yorkshire Dales villages. The route follows a mixture of woodland trails, country lanes and field paths through a landscape of rolling hills, dry stone walls and traditional stone-built farms.
The highlight of the walk is Aysgarth Falls, one of the most famous waterfalls in the Yorkshire Dales.... The River Ure tumbles over a series of limestone steps here, creating three impressive cascades surrounded by woodland and rocky scenery. The falls became internationally known after featuring in the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and have long been a popular destination for visitors to Wensleydale.
The route also visits West Burton Falls, a picturesque waterfall on the edge of the charming village of West Burton. Known locally as Cauldron Falls, the cascade drops into a clear pool beside attractive woodland and village green scenery, making it one of the most photogenic spots in the area.
Returning to Aysgarth, the walk passes through classic Dales countryside with opportunities to spot wildlife including herons, dippers and kingfishers along the river valleys. The village itself is a great base for exploring the surrounding area, with the Aysgarth Falls National Park Centre nearby and further walking routes leading into the wider Yorkshire Dales landscape.
