Bigbury to Challaborough Walk

0.6 miles (1 km)

Starting from the car park at Bigbury-on-Sea, this short but dramatic walk heads north along a rugged section of the South West Coast Path.
As you ascend the initial slope, you are treated to the most iconic views of Burgh Island, where the historic Art Deco hotel and the Pilchard Inn sit atop the tidal outcrop, often surrounded by the swirling waters of the incoming tide.... The path follows the high ridgeline, offering a bird's-eye perspective of the sea tractor ferrying passengers across the sandy causeway below.
The trail continues toward the dramatic headland of Warren Point, a jagged rocky outcrop where the Atlantic swells often crash spectacularly against the base of the cliffs. From this vantage point, the panorama opens up to reveal the vast expanse of Bigbury Bay and the distant silhouette of the Cornish coast on a clear day. After rounding the point, the path begins a steady descent through coastal scrub and wildflowers, leading you directly onto the sheltered sands of Challaborough Beach. This popular surfing spot is framed by steep green hills and offers a quiet contrast to the busier stretches of Bigbury, making it an ideal place to watch the waves before heading back.
