Brynamman Ynys Dawela Nature Park

2 miles (3.2 km)

This walk explores the Ynys Dawela Nature Park in the village of Brynamman on the border of Carmarthenshire and Neath Port Talbot.
The village sits in a lovely spot on the southern side of the Black Mountain in the Amman Valley. This easy walk from the village takes you through the Ynys Dawela Nature Park to the west of the village.... The small but varied green space is set alongside the River Amman. Well-surfaced paths make the park easy to walk, with the route looping gently through grassland and riverside sections that feel sheltered despite the nearby town.
The river is a constant presence, flowing calmly through the park and attracting interest along the banks. Footbridges and open stretches provide changing views, while benches and open areas make it a relaxed place to pause and take in the surroundings. Look out for wildlife including Dippers in the waters and Buzzards and Kestrels in the skies above.

Woodland path in Parc Ynys Dawela. There are many woodland areas that are reclaimed collieries in this part of Wales. Here you can see the process occurring as the trees have not yet produced enough leaf litter to hide the spoil heap that the path has been made of.
