Cowes to Sandown Cycle Track
This lovely ride takes you along National Cycle Route 23 from Cowes to Sandown on the Isle of Wight. The route runs for about 14 miles on a largely traffic free track making for a fairly easy ride.
The route starts from Cowes harbour where you can pick up the signed trail and head south. The trail runs along a surfaced, traffic free path to Newport, with views of the River Medina on the way.
You continue south to Blackwater and Merstone where the route bends round to the east. Here there's a run along a dismantled railway before picking up a section of the Yar River Trail. This takes you along the river into Sandown where you finish on the sea front. There's a lovely beach here and lots of nice cafes for refreshment after your exercise.
To continue your cycling on the island try the Newport Circular which visits nearby Bembridge.
