London To Edinburgh Cycle Route
This long distance cycle ride takes you from the capital of England to the capital of Scotland. The trail mainly uses signed National Cycle Network routes with some other waymarked regional routes as well. As such it is not the most direct route but one which uses official signed paths which use quiet country roads and traffic free cycle paths for most of the way.
The ride starts on Tower Bridge in the city of London. Here you can pick up National Cycle Route 13 and follow it east along the River Thames to link up with National Cycle Route 1. Follow NCN 1 north through London and into Hertfordshire and Essex.
Around High Laver you link up with Regional Route 50 and follow it north to Rickling Green where you pick up National Cycle Route 11. Follow this north through Cambridgeshire to the famous university city of Cambridge and on to Ely with its splendid cathedral.
The next stage takes you into West Norfolk and the town of Downham Market before picking up NCN 1 again around Wiggenhall St Germans.
You can then follow NCN 1 all the way to Edinburgh from here. It will first take you through Lincolnshire to Boston and Lincoln before crossing the Humber Bridge at Barton Upon Humber.
The trail then runs for Yorkshire to Beverley, Driffield, Bridlington, Scarborough and Whitby on the coast.
You then enter County Durham, passing through Stockton on Tees and Seaham before coming to Sunderland and Tynemouth in Tyne and Wear.
The trail proceeds along the Northumberland coast to Alnmouth, Seahouses, Bamburgh and Berwick on the border with Scotland.
You then head west through the Scottish Borders to Innerleithen where you turn north to Musselburgh. Turn west here for the final section taking you into Edinburgh.
