Ardleigh Reservoir
This pretty reservoir near Colchester has a nice country lane running along its northern side. You can reach the reservoir from the nearby village of Ardleigh by following Wick Lane and Lodge Lane for about a mile. The path runs right along the lake with nice views across the water to the trees lining its the edge.
The lake is located just to the east of High Woods Country Park where there's woodland, open spaces, ponds, a lake and wildflower meadows.

Head east into Ardleigh village and you could enjoy some post exercise refreshments at the Wooden Fender. The historic pub dates back to the 17th century, serving traditional ales and good home cooked food. They have a lovely large garden where you can enjoy views of the countryside.

Ardleigh Reservoir from Wick Lane. This is a shot of the lake taken from near Fountain Farm. The Reservoir was created in the 1970’s when Colchester’s traditional water source at Lexden Springs became inadequate for the expanding town. The picture was taken from a causeway on Wick Lane looking north east.
