Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap This walk takes you along the coastal path from Banff To Whitehills.
The trail runs for about 3 miles and is also suitable for cyclists as it runs along a nice surfaced path.
You can start the walk from the car parking area at Banff Harbour and head west. From the outset, the views over Boyndie Bay and the Moray Firth are stunning, with the coastline stretching out in a series of gentle coves and rocky outcrops. The path follows the cliffs, offering excellent vantage points to look out for dolphins and seals, which are often seen swimming in the waters below.
One of the highlights of the route is the view over Boyndie Bay, a wide, sandy beach surrounded by low cliffs. This beautiful bay is a haven for wildlife, with wading birds such as curlews and sandpipers often spotted along the shore. At low tide, rock pools are revealed, teeming with marine life like crabs, anemones, and small fish. The bay also provides a tranquil spot to pause and enjoy the coastal scenery before continuing on the path.
As you approach Whitehills, the landscape transitions to a charming harbour village, where you can enjoy the traditional coastal scenery with fishing boats and quaint cottages. Whitehills itself is a lovely spot to explore, with its historic harbour and a welcoming community. There are options to stop for refreshments at a local cafe, making it a perfect end to your walk.
You can continue your walking around Banff by visiting the historic Duff House with its lovely grounds and fine riverside walk.
