Butcombe Trail
This waymarked circular walk explores the Mendips Hills, visiting several pretty villages and their classic pubs.
The 47 mile trail forms a loop around the AONB, extending to Bleadon Hill in the west. It begins at Hinton Blewett in the east and passes through Priddy, Cheddar, Axbridge, Bleadon (its western end), Rowberrow, and Compton Martin. The trail comprises six sections connecting six Butcombe pubs: The Ring O Bells in Hinton Blewett, The Queen Victoria, The Lamb, The Queens Arms, The Swan, and The Ring O Bells in Compton Martin. These sections can be completed in any order.
The trail is also used as a challenging ultramarathon route.

Pubs/Cafes
Priddy: Queen Victoria Inn - This 19th century pub includes original features such as wonderful flagstone flooring, huge fireplaces and beamed ceilings. The friendly pub serves good quality food and has a fine selection of ales as well. They also have a nice garden area to sit out in if the weather is fine. Cheddar: The White Hart - Here you can enjoy a ploughman's lunch and a decent pint of Cheddar Ale in the nice beer garden.
There's also the popular Lion Rock Tea Rooms. Nestled in the heart of Cheddar Gorge in one of the oldest, most photographed and documented buildings beneath the World Famous Lion Rock. You can find it on the Cliffs Road at postcode BS27 3QE.
Compton Martin: The Ring O' Bells is an historic pub dating back to the 16th century. There's a wonderful old interior with plenty of original features such as dark wooden beams, wooden flooring, stone walls and a large inglenook fireplace. Outside there's a fantastic, large beer garden with views of the surrounding countryside. It's a great place to relax in on warmer days.
