Coalisland Canal Walk
This walk takes you along the Coalisland Canal in the town of Coalisland in County Tyrone.
You can start the walk in the town centre and follow the canalside path east along the water. The town was established around the canal in the 17th century due to the discovery of coal deposits in the region. Today, the canal's towpath has been repurposed into a scenic walking route, offering a tranquil environment rich in local wildlife. As you stroll along the path, you may encounter dippers and kingfishers near the water, and with some luck, spot an elusive otter. The surrounding flora includes a variety of native plants that thrive in the canal's ecosystem.
To continue your walking in the area head south east to visit the lovely Peatlands Park. Oxford Island and Lough Neagh can also also be found nearby.
