Cromarty 100 Steps and Sutors Of Cromarty Walk
This circular walk visits the Cromarty 100 Steps and Sutors Of Cromarty at the tip of the Black Isle on the southern shore of the mouth of Cromarty Firth.
The walk also visits the photogenic rock formations at McFarquhar's Bed.
Starting from the harbour car park, walkers proceed through the charming streets before ascending the "100 Steps," a historic stone staircase leading up to the South Sutor. This ascent takes you through woodland areas, eventually reaching the South Sutor viewpoint. From this vantage point, there are stunning views across the Cromarty Firth, including sights of oil rigs and the North Sea.
Flora along the path includes coastal grasses, wildflowers, and woodland species, while fauna such as seabirds, including gulls and cormorants, may be observed. The area is also known for sightings of marine mammals like dolphins and seals in the surrounding waters.
The route continues south along the coast to the walks' geological highlights at McFarquhar's Bed and Cave before turning inland to return to Cromarty.
You can continue your walking in the area by heading south west to Rosemarkie and Fortrose where you can visit the delightful Fairy Glen Falls and look out for dolphins at Chanonry Point.
