Drogheda�Boardwalk and the Boyne Greenway Walk

This shared cycling and walking route takes you along the River Boyne in the town of Drogheda in County Louth on the east coast of Ireland.
Known as the Boyne Greenway the trail utilises sections of boardwalk and riverside paths along the River Boyne. It provides a scenic route that connects Drogheda’s town centre to the historic Oldbridge Estate, home to the famous Battle of the Boyne site. The path follows the existing ramparts and includes informative heritage signs that delve into Irish mythology, particularly stories relevant to the Boyne Valley.
One of the highlights of the trail is its proximity to the Mary McAleese Cable Bridge, a striking structure that spans the River Boyne. As the trail continues, it follows the Boyne Canal, offering picturesque views of the river and the surrounding landscapes. Once at the Oldbridge Estate, visitors can enjoy several self-guided walks through the estate’s parkland, making it a versatile route for both casual strolls and more extensive explorations of the area’s rich history and natural beauty.

At the end of the route you can explore the historic site of the Battle of the Boyne. The area includes an excellent visitor centre and a number of walkways taking you around the site of the 17th century battle. There are also pretty gardens and more walks along the River Boyne and the Boyne Canal.
