Glen Feshie Waterfall Walk
This walk takes you along the River Feshie in the beautiful Glen Feshie in the Cairngorms in north-east Scotland. The river is a major right bank tributary of the River Spey and has some pretty waterfalls to see on the way.
There is a public car park off a country lane adjacent to the Inshriach Forest where you can start your walk. From here follow the trails south through the glen to the waterfalls. Along the way there are some wonderful views of the river and the surrounding mountains.
Walking beside the crystal-clear waters, you will pass through a landscape framed by rugged hills and dense pine forests, with the towering Cairngorm mountain range providing a striking backdrop. The route is peaceful and remote, making it an ideal choice for those looking to enjoy the tranquility of the Scottish Highlands while immersed in natural beauty. As you follow the river, it carves its way through the glen, creating deep, rocky gorges and picturesque cascades that add an element of adventure and awe-inspiring natural scenery to the walk. The surrounding landscape is dotted with ancient Caledonian pinewoods, vast peat bogs, and heather-clad hills, each offering a different view of the rugged terrain.
You can continue your waterside walking in the area by heading north to visit the picturesque Loch Insh.

Glen Feshie. The clear river Feshie runs close to the track down the glen. The hillside on the opposite side of the glen is covered with Silver Birch trees. At this point the valley has started to narrow as you progress North East down the glen.

The highland environment supports hardy vegetation such as heather, bilberry, and wild thyme, which bloom vibrantly in the summer months, while patches of resilient mosses and lichens cling to the rocky surfaces. Ancient Caledonian pine forests bordering the river create a cool, shaded understory where ferns and native wildflowers thrive. Birdlife is abundant in this unspoilt setting, with species such as red grouse, buzzards, and various woodland songbirds frequently observed, and the clear, fast-flowing waters harbour trout and salmon that enhance the river’s ecological diversity. Small mammals like otters may also be seen at the water’s edge, completing this vibrant natural tableau.
