Houghton Conquest and Houghton House Circular Walk

3.1 miles (5 km)

Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap This circular walk explores the countryside and woodland to the south of the Bedfordshire village of Houghton Conquest.
The walk follows pubic footpaths to the King's Wood Nature Reserve where there's some peaceful woodland trails, springtime bluebells and lots of wildlife to see.
You'll also visit the English Heritage run Houghton House. The 17th-century ruined mansion is reputedly the inspiration for the ‘House Beautiful’ in John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress. You can stroll around the grounds and enjoy some fine views of the surrounding countryside.
The walk can be extended by visiting the nearby Ampthill Park which lies just south west of Houghton House.
