Maryport to Allonby Walk
This walk follows a popular section of the Cumbria Coastal Way from Maryport to Allonby.
The route runs for a distance of 5.5 miles along a fairly flat path on the Solway Coast.
On the way you will pass and old Roman Tower, Swarthy Hill and the settlements of Crosby and Crosscanonby. There are some splendid views across Allonby Bay to the Solway Firth.
You can extend the walk by continuing north along the coast path to Mawbray and Silloth.

Maryport Promenade, just after high tide. The promenade offers a sociable walk, about 2km each way. This picture was taken just below the Roman Museum; it wasn't a particularly high tide. This is a good location for spotting cetaceans in the Solway if the sea surface is calm. They may be so far out that it is very hard to see them with the naked eye, so it's worth taking binoculars for cetecean and bird spotting.
