Montacute House Walks
This magnificent 16th century mansion is surrounded by beautiful parkland and gardens, perfect for a peaceful walk. The house includes the 52 metre Long Gallery with a collection of Tudor portraits from the National Portrait Gallery.
The parkland includes the Cedar Lawn with its wibbly wobbly hedges, the orangery with its pretty water cascade, and the lovely Lime Tree avenue with lovely views of the house.
Montacute House is located just a couple of miles west of Yeovil Country Park. The Leland Trail runs past the house so you could pick this up if you wanted to continue your walk. Ham Hill Country Park is less than a mile west of Montacute so this is another good option. There's fabulous views over the surrounding countryside from the elevated position of the hill. Another nice option is to climb to the nearby St. Michael's Hill where there are fantastic views back down to the house and gardens.

Pubs/Cafes
Next to Ham Hill you'll find the excellent Prince of Wales. The pub is located right next to the hill and includes a lovely beer garden with fine views over the surrounding countryside. In the summer months there is live music in Amy’s garden, an ice cream hut, pizza oven and an outside bar. You can find the pub next to the hill with a postcode of TA14 6RW for your sat navs.

Montacute: view from St. Michael's Hill tower Looking out from the tower at the top of St. Michael's Hill, we have splendid views down to bottom right and a large expanse of the surrounding countryside.
Montacute House. The south and west faces of this lovely stately home, its sandstone colours catching the February sun quite strikingly.

Tower atop St. Michael’s Hill. This tower stands at the summit of St. Michael’s Hill and you can climb it to obtain fantastic views over the surrounding countryside. The rough foliage above the snowdrops conceals an unfortunate bit of blasphemous graffiti.

The wood on the slopes of Hedgecock Hill are deep in shadow on this autumn afternoon. Beyond this is the northern spur of Hamdon Hill, with its Iron Age ramparts and the prominent Stoke-sub-Hamdon war memorial. Nestling in "The Coombe" between Hamdon Hill and Hedgecock Hill is the parish church of St Mary, Stoke-sub-Hamdon.
