Neale Loop Walk

The Neale Loop, also known as the Neale Heritage Walk, is a 3-kilometre circular trail situated in the picturesque village of The Neale, County Mayo, Ireland.
This easy-grade walk begins at St John the Baptist Church and Calvary, guiding walkers through a landscape rich in historical landmarks and natural beauty. From the church, the route heads north along the Ballinrobe road, leading to Fr. O'Malley Millennium Park. Here, walkers can enjoy the serene environment before continuing to the 'Gods of The Neale,' a collection of stone figures that add a unique cultural touch to the journey. The trail then passes by 'The Temple' and 'The Neale Well,' both of which hold historical significance in the local community. A notable feature along the walk is the Pyramid, an intriguing structure that stands as a testament to the area's rich heritage.
The loop concludes back at the starting point, offering a comprehensive exploration of The Neale's cultural and historical sites.
Throughout the walk, the terrain consists of village footpaths and quiet country lanes, making it accessible for walkers of all ages and abilities. The area is characterised by a variety of flora, including native wildflowers that bloom seasonally along the pathways. Birdwatchers may observe species typical of Irish rural landscapes, such as robins, blackbirds, and swallows during the warmer months.
You can continue your walking in the area by heading south to visit the historic Ashford Castle. The medieval/Victorian castle includes beautiful grounds, riverside trails and a popular hawk walk. The Cong Forest Nature Loop can also be picked up in this area.
