Pitfichie Forest Walks

1.2 miles (2 km)

Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap This walk visits the Whitehills Stone Circle and Bogmore Wood from Pitfichie Forest car park. It's a very peaceful area with woodland trails and an ancient site to see.
You can start the walk from the Pitfichie Forest Car Park, just to the east of the site. Then follow footpaths west up past Tillyfourie Hill and the Whitehills Stone Circle. The circle dates from the late Neolithic period and was probably constructed for ceremonial purposes, from 2000-3000 B.C. It's a photogenic spot with some attractive heathland and moorland surrounding the stones.
Head south east of the site and you can continue your walking around Aberdeenshire at the lovely Loch of Skene.
**N.B Please do not go into the nearby Tillyfourie quarry as this is private land and unsafe. Please stick to the woodland trails leading to the stone circle.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas

Head east and there's more fine cycling and walking trails to be found in the expansive Kirkhill Forest near Aberdeen. The historic Drum Castle is also nearby and well worth a visit.
A few miles to the east there's the National Trust's Castle Fraser in Inverurie. The stunning 15th century castle is surrounded by some beautiful gardens and landscaped grounds.
Just to the south west there's the 16th century Craigievar Castle. Here you can explore the attractive grounds of a pink fairytale castle, thought to have been the inspiration for Walt Disney’s Cinderella Castle.
