Trellech Beacon Walk
This circular walk explores Beacon Woods and Beacon Hill near the Monmouthshire village of Trellech.
The route meanders through a landscape rich in historical character and natural beauty, where ancient woodlands and open vistas converge to provide breathtaking panoramic views over the rolling countryside. As you follow the trail, the elevated Beacon Hill offers a commanding outlook that stretches across lush valleys and scattered farmlands, while distant peaks subtly outline the horizon.
The rich biodiversity of this region is evident in its varied flora and fauna. Beacon Woods is home to native deciduous trees such as ancient oak, ash, and beech, whose dense canopies shelter vibrant undergrowth including bluebells, wood anemones, and ferns that flourish in the spring. In contrast, the open heathland of Beacon Hill is adorned with hardy wildflowers, gorse, and heather, creating a mosaic of color and texture across the landscape. This diversity of habitats attracts an array of wildlife; the woodland and open areas are frequented by songbirds, kestrels, and buzzards, while small mammals like red foxes and badgers are often spotted in the undergrowth, and the quiet hours of dawn or dusk sometimes reveal the presence of deer as they move silently through the fields.
You can continue your walking along the Wye Valley Walk to nearby Llandogo.
