This walk in Westport takes you along the River Carrowbeg to the historic Westport House.
The walk starts in the town where you can enjoy some fine Georgian architecture and old stone bridges over the river. Follow the riverside footpath west and it will take you to Westport House. The Georgian house includes a splendid 400-acre Estate with some fine walking trails, attractive woodland, waterfalls and lovely views.
To continue your walking you could pick up the Great Western Greenway. The shared cycling and walking trail starts/finishes in the town.
Head west and you could continue your walking at one of the area's highlights at Croagh Patrick. There are some excellent views over County Mayo from here.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas
To the south west there's Cleggan where you can catch the ferry to the beautiful Inishbofin island. There's a waymarked circular loop walk here passing rugged cliffs, a photogenic ruined fort, pretty lakes and stone beaches. Near here there's also Clare Island which you can reach from Roonagh Pier near the small town of Louisburgh. The island has strong associations with the notorious Grace O'Malley, the 'pirate queen' of the 16th century.
