Japanese Rest House, Batsford Arboretum-geograph-2479858-by-Neil-Owen

Japanese Rest House. Perhaps due to the large number of Japanese Acers and bamboo plants that were brought to Batsford Arboretum, Lord Redesdale built this house around 1890. It is modelled on typical structures found on hillsides for weary travellers. The characters around the door extol the virtues of bamboo, but oddly are in Chinese. A dragon sits on the roof to ward off evil.
