National Cycle Route 63
This signed Sustrans cycle route follows National Cycle Route 63 from Shobnall near Burton on Trent to Wisbech.
On the way you will pass through the National Forest and the cities of Leicester, Stamford and Peterborough.
Route highlights include waterside paths along the picturesque Thornton Reservoir and the wildlife rich Rutland Water which includes a wonderful circular path around the perimeter of the lake.
Near the start look out for Conkers and the Moira Furnace on the Ashby Canal. There's a fascinating country park surrounding the early 19th century Iron furnace with a museum and craft workshops here.
Near Peterborough you will pass the Castor Hanglands Nature Reserve and the picturesque lakes at Ferry Meadows Country Park. There's also a lovely traffic free section along the River Nene here.
The start point for the route is Shobnall on the Trent and Mersey Canal, just to the west of Burton on Trent.
