Avon Water Walkway - Hamilton River Walk
This waymarked riverside walk takes you along the Avon Water in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire.
The easy waterside walk links Strathclyde Country Park and Chatelherault Country Park which lie just to the east of the town.
You can start the walk at the parking area at the southern end of Strathclyde Loch and park. From here you follow the trail south to Chatelherault where there are some pleasant woodland trails and lovely gardens. You'll also pass the ruins of Cadzow Castle which dates back to the 16th century and sits above the photogenic gorge overlooking the Avon Water.
The trail then continues south to finish at Stonehouse. On the way you will also pass the pretty Morgan Glen with its waterfalls and old railway viaduct.
The route links up with the Clyde Walkway near the start of the walk. You could extend your outing by following it south east along the River Clyde to the nearby RSPB Barons Haugh Nature Reserve where you can look out for a variety of water loving birdlife.
