Morgan Glen Larkhall Walk

This walk takes you through Morgan Glen in Larkhall in South Lanarkshire.
The pretty wooded glen is located to the west of the town and includes a car park at the northern end. From here you can pick up the trails heading south through the glen and along the Avon Water. On the way you will pass the impressive�Larkhall Viaduct and some pretty waterfalls.
The forest is dominated by mature ash trees, with patches of oak, sycamore, and beech adding variety to the canopy. As you move along the paths, you will notice an understorey rich in native shrubs and wildflowers, particularly vibrant during the spring and early summer months. Open glades within the woodland offer ideal habitats for butterflies and other invertebrates, and birdwatchers may spot a range of woodland species such as small songbirds, with the occasional larger bird soaring overhead. The close proximity to the River Avon adds a riparian element, where the moist banks support moisture-loving plants and provide a haven for small mammals and other wildlife. In addition to its natural beauty, the glen carries a rich social history, having been gifted to the local community and long serving as a cherished spot for walks, gatherings, and local events. Ongoing conservation efforts help maintain the ecological balance, ensuring that the native flora and fauna continue to thrive in this important natural asset for Larkhall.
You can continue your walking at the nearby Chatelherault Country Park where there are also some good cycle trails. The Avon Walkway can be followed north to reach the park.
