Dent Head Viaduct Walk
This circular walk visits the impressive Dent Head Viaduct in Dentdale in the Yorkshire Dales, Cumbria.
The walk makes use of the Dales Way and Pennine Bridleway long distance trails to visit the structure from Dent Railway Station on the Settle–Carlisle line. On the way there are some hill climbs with wonderful views over the viaducts and the surrounding countryside.
From the station you can follow the Dales Way south past Cow Dub to the Arten Gill Viaduct at Stone House. Continue south and you will pass some waterfalls on the river before coming to Dent Head viaduct.
The impressive structure dates from the Victorian period and is 596 feet (182 m) long, 100 feet (30 m) high, and consists of ten arches.
You continue south east pass Stoops Moss, the Blea Moor Stones and Newby Head. Here you turn north along the Pennine Bridleway to Swineley Cowm, Dent Fell and Green Bank before following a country lane west back to the rail station.
To continue your walking in the area head south to visit the famous Ribblehead Viaduct.
