Dunning Glen Walks
This walk explores the Dunning Glen in the village of Dunning in Perth and Kinross.
The walk starts in the village centre and follows the Dunning Burn path south east into the glen. Here you'll find pleasant woodland paths taking you along the pretty burn.
As you follow the burn, the sound of running water adds to the tranquil atmosphere of the glen. The surrounding woodlands are a mix of native species such as oak, ash, and birch, creating a vibrant and rich canopy. In spring, the woodland floor is carpeted with wildflowers, including bluebells, wood anemones, and primroses, while the ferns and mosses add a lush green texture throughout the year. The area is also home to a variety of birds, including chaffinches, warblers, and wrens, whose songs fill the air. Along the water's edge, you might spot dippers and wagtails darting about or see evidence of otters that inhabit the burn.
The glen itself is a serene haven with gently undulating paths that offer occasional views of the surrounding Perthshire countryside. The Dunning Burn meanders through the glen, creating small pools and cascades that enhance the scenic beauty. The woodland edges provide habitats for roe deer and red squirrels, which may be seen darting among the trees. In autumn, the area transforms into a tapestry of golds, oranges, and reds, making it particularly picturesque.
To continue your walking in the area head east to visit the atmospheric Glenfarg Tunnels and the photogenic Glenfarg Reservoir.
