Fulbourn Fen Walk
This circular walk explores Fulbourn Fen from the Cambridgeshire village of Fulbourn.
The route runs along part of the Harcamlow Way to take you from the village to the fen. Here you can enjoy flat paths along the Little Wilbraham River with great views across the surrounding countryside.
The reserve, managed by the Wildlife Trust, is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, protecting a unique blend of ancient meadows, woodlands, and fenland habitats. As you explore, you'll pass through meadows that have never been intensively farmed, giving rise to a rich diversity of plants. In spring, these areas are carpeted in cowslips and home to several species of orchid.
The reserve is also a haven for wildlife. You can often spot a variety of birds, including warblers in the summer, and keep an eye out for resident species like chiffchaff and great spotted woodpeckers. The area's sensitive ecosystem is also home to reptiles, such as lizards and grass snakes, which can sometimes be seen sunning themselves on grassy tussocks.
