Hutton in the Forest Walks
This walk visits the Grade I listed Hutton in the Forest near Penrith in Cumbria. The grounds of this fine country house are a a lovely place for a walk with woodland, parkland, a pretty lake and 17th Century landscaped gardens to explore.
Look out for several historic buildings in the grounds including a 17th century dovecote and the 13th century church of St James.
The gardens are also delightful with herbaceous plants, ponds with cascades and some fine topiary.
The woodland walk will take you to rhododendrons and magnificent American conifers, planted as a small arboretum in the 1860s. Look out for a variety of wildlife including red squirrel, roe deer and many species of bird on the trail.

Dog Walking
The grounds are dog friendly and a great place to explore with your furry friend. You are requested to please keep them on leads.
Further Information and Other Local Ideas
A few miles to the west there's some nice woodland trails to try in Greystoke Forest.
Askham Hall, Lowther Castle, Acorn Bank and Shap Abbey are other nearby properties with some fine walks in the grounds. From Askham you can also enjoy a climb to Askham Fell for great views over Ullswater Lake.
