Samlesbury Bottoms Walk
This circular walk explores Samlesbury Bottoms near the Lancashire village of Samlesbury.
The area is a pleasant place for a walk with riverside trails along the River Darwen and peaceful woodland areas. There's also evidence of the area's milling history and a visit to Hoghton Tower and Hoghton Bottoms at the southern end of the route. The 16th century manor house is one of the highlights of the area and open to the public on certain days. The grounds and gardens are well worth exploring with some wonderful views over the Lancashire countryside.
You can start and finish the walk from the Nab's Head Pub just to the east of Samlesbury Bottoms. The pub has a car parking area and serves good quality dishes.
Part of the walk uses a section of the Witton Weavers Way. You could extend the walk by following the trail east to Witton Country Park where you can climb to a fine viewpoint on Billinge Hill.
