Stanford Reservoir
This pretty reservoir is located on the River Avon near the village of Stanford-on-Avon on the Leicestershire and Northamptonshire border.
You can access the reservoir with a permit from Severn and Trent Water. This will allow you to follow footpaths along the water where you can look out for a variety of birdlife including goosander, tufted duck, wigeon, pochard and shoveller. Several other rare species have also been spotted in this secluded spot such as Golden Oriole and Spotted Crake.
You can start the walk from the car park at the eastern end of the lake, near to South Kilworth.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas
Head south west from the site and you can continue your lakeside walking at the expansive Draycote Water.
Just to the east you can pick up the Welford Walk. There's another reservoir here and easy walks along the Grand Union Canal towpath. Near here you can also pick up the Naseby Battlefield Walk and visit Sulby Reservoir.
To the west of the lake you can try the circular Lutterworth Walk which explores the valley of the River Swift. There's also some fine 17th century buildings and a local country park to see in the neighbouring market town.
Just to the east you can pick up the Crick Canal Walk. This follows the Leicester Line of the Grand Union Canal to the attractive village.
