This walk from the village visits the Thornham Walks on the Thornham Estate. The estate has some well maintained trails taking you around the expansive estate's beautiful parkland and ancient woodlands. Features in the park include a lovely walled garden, glasshouses, fishing lakes, a memorial wood, a pinetum with conifers and wildflowers, a butterfly ride and water meadows where you can look out for a variety of wildfowl. There's also a car park, cafe and some wonderful carved sculptures to admire.

Pubs/Cafes

There's a nice on site cafe on the Thornham Estate or you could head into the village and visit the 15th century Four Horseshoes. This beautiful thatched pub serves fine food and also provides accommodation. You can find them at Wickham Rd, Thornham Magna, IP23 8HD.

Dog Walking

The estate is a great place for a dog walk with some fine woodland trails for them to enjoy. You are asked to keep them on leads due to the livestock. The Four Horseshoes pub mentioned above is also dog friendly.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas

Just to the east is the neighbouring town of Eye where you can visit the 11th century Norman castle and a particularly fine 16th century pub.

Thornham Estate is a beautiful place to walk and is open to the public each day. This photograph shows the start of the walks close to the Café and Field Centre. There are 12 miles of footpaths through ancient parkland, woodland, farmland and water meadows. The walk shown here has a surfaced path suitable for push chairs and wheelchairs.
