Lakes And Dales Loop
A challenging circular ride exploring the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the River Eden Valley.
The ride starts in the Northern lakes in Penrith and heads west to Cockermouth, passing Mungrisdale and Blencathra before crossing the River Derwent and passing along the shoulder of Watch Hill.
The next stage runs from Cockermouth to Eskdale Green passing Lorton Vale, Crummock Water, Loweswater, the Ennerdale valley, Calder Bridge and Gosforth.
From Eskdale Green you continue to Cartmel, passing Devoke Water, Birker Fell, Dunnerdale Fells, Broughton in Furness, Bouth and Haverthwaite where you pass close to the southern edge of Lake Windermere. From here you continue south to Cartmel where you can visit the ancient priory.
The next stage runs from Cartmel to Kirkby Lonsdale. You first head east to Grange-over-Sands where there's a lovely run along Morecambe Bay. You continue north east past the wildlife rich Foulshaw Moss before entering the lovely Lyth Valley where you could visit Levens Hall and its wonderful topiary.
The route then heads south east to Hutton Roof where you will pass the wonderful limestone pavement at Hutton Roof Crags and Farleton Fell before coming to Kirkby Lonsdale.
The next stage runs north from Kirkby Lonsdale to beautiful Barbondale and Sedbergh where there are views of the River Dee. You continue north towards Tebay, passing through the upper Lune Valley before coming to Orton.
The final stage runs from Orton back to Penrith. You'll pass through the wonderful scenery of the Eden Valley, enjoying the captivating limestone landscape of Great Asby Scar and Little Asby Common. You'll also pass through the historic town of Appleby where you could enjoy a pit stop.
