National Cycle Route 167
This signed Sustrans cycle route runs through the Yorkshire Wolds between Kirkham and Huggate. It is one of five NCN routes that form the 146-mile Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Route. Established in 2011, it is fully open and signposted.
The route follows quiet country lanes and is entirely on-road. It begins in Kirkham, where it connects with the western end of Route 166, and passes through Westow, Leavening, and Thixendale before reaching its southeastern end at Huggate, where it meets the northern section of National Cycle Route 164. The Yorkshire Wolds’ rolling terrain means there are few flat sections, with the steepest climbs being those out of Leavening and Thixendale when heading towards Huggate.
Sustrans plans to extend the route further north to Malton and Pickering.
National Cycle Route 166 also starts from Kirkham and will take you to Hunmanby. National Cycle Route 164 can be picked up at Huggate.

A section of Waterdale. Waterdale is a strange feature near Thixendale - a steep sided valley which despite the name does not have any stream through it except perhaps in exceptional rainfall events.
