National Cycle Route 22
This Sustrans cycle route takes you from the outskirts of South London to Newport on the Isle of Wight.
The route runs for about 100 miles on a mixture of quiet country lanes with some long traffic free sections as well.
The ride starts off just west of Coulsdon and east of Banstead. You will then head south west through Surrey and Hampshire to the coast at Portsmouth.
Here a ferry crossing takes you to the Isle of Wight where the route finishes in Newport.
On the way you will pass Epsom Downs, Dorking, Guildford and Farnham where there's a great off road section through the expansive Alice Holt Forest.
You continue south through Bordon and Petersfield where there's another route highlight through the popular Queen Elizabeth Country Park.
From here you continue south to Havant and Portsmouth where you catch the ferry over the Solent to Ryde on the Isle of Wight. You'll then follow country lanes south west to finish near Newport.

The route links up with National Cycle Route 20 around Banstead. This includes a trip along the Wandle Trail through London and a section from Pyecombe to Brighton on the south coast.
In the Havant/Portsmouth area the route links with National Cycle Route 2 which runs from Dover on the Kent coast to Dawlish on the Devon coast.
