Barrow upon Soar Walks
This village in Leicestershire has some nice river and canal walks to try. There's also a nearby lake and a fine waterside inn for rest and refreshment after your exercise.
This circular walk from the village visits the River Soar, the Grand Union Canal and the neighbouring village of Quorn. The route runs for just under 3 miles with some pleasant waterside footpaths. You can pick up the canal just to the west of the train station.
You can extend the walk by following a footpath south from Quorn to visit Swithland Reservoir, Cropston Reservoir and Swithland Woods. These sites are located close to Barrow and are a great place to extend your walking in the area. Near here you'll also find the expansive deer park at the popular Bradgate Country Park.

Pubs/Cafes
The Navigation Inn is located in a great spot right next to the canal. On warm days you can sit outside and enjoy a lovely view over the water. You can find them at 87 Mill Ln, LE12 8LQ.
Dog Walking
The waterside paths make for a pleasant dog walk. The Navigation Inn mentioned above is also dog friendly.
Further Information and Other Local Ideas
Head a few miles west of the village and you could visit Beacon Hill Country Park. There's some good woodland trails and a splendid viewpoint with fine views over the area to enjoy here.
Just to the south is Mountsorrel where there's some interesting old quarries and a lovely riverside pub next to Mountsorrel Lock on the Soar.
