Bishop Wood Selby
This walk explores the woodland trails in the expansive Bishop Wood near Selby, Cawood and Wistow.
The woods are located just a few miles north west of Selby. You can start the walk from the parking area of Scalm Lane. Then pick up a series of flat footpaths taking you around the northern part of the ancient woodland. The trails make for particularly fine autumn woodland walk and there are pretty bluebells to see in the spring months too. Look out for a variety of woodland birds and wildflowers in the warmer seasons.

As you'd expect the woods are ideal for dog walking so you'll probably see other owners on your visit.
Further Information and Other Local Ideas
Head into Selby and you can enjoy a waterside walk along the Selby Canal. It's a very pleasant walk with locks, barges and pleasant tree lined footpaths on the way.
Skipwith Common is also near the town. Highlights here include the Exmoor ponies and herd of wild deer on the common.
The wood can also be reached by tracks from the nearby village of Sherburn in Elmet.

Bishop Wood, Wistow Low autumn sun on the track between Old Close and New Close in Bishop Wood, west of Selby. The western half of Bishop Wood is in Cawood parish and the eastern half in Wistow. The Forestry Commission is gradually returning this 'planted ancient woodland site' to native woodland, which means replacing the pines, poplars and sycamores with native trees such as oak and alder.
