Colt Crag Reservoir
This walk visits the lovely Colt Crag Reservoir near Hexham and Corbridge in Northumberland.
It's a fine place for a peaceful stroll with a walking trail running along the southern side of the water. The area is great for wildlife too with red squirrels, roe deer, otters and great crested grebes. The grassland and woodland adjacent to the site provides ideal breeding habitat for the cuckoo, meadow pipit, whinchat, and wheatear birds.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas
Just a couple of miles south east there's the two Hallington Reservoir to visit. The St Oswald's Way can also be accessed in the adjacent village of Hallington.
Just to the north there's Sweethope Loughs where you'll find two nice fishing lakes with woodland and waterside paths.
The pleasant path along Whittle Dene Reservoir and the epic Hadrian's Wall Path can be picked up a little further to the south east.
To the north there's the popular Kielder Forest where you can visit the wildlife on the expansive Catcleugh Reservoir and see the delightful secluded waterfalls at Hindhope Linn.
