Cannock Chase Country Park Walks, Cycling and MTB Map
This huge country park has 3000 acres of cycling and walking trails to explore. The route starts at the park cycle hire centre and takes you to Brindley Heath on woodland trails before returning to the start point. Cannock Chase is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with a large variety of wildlife including 800 fallow deer. The park is located just a few miles from Stafford.
Several long distance, waymarked trails run through the area including the Two Saints Way, Heart of England Way and the Sabrina Way. These trails are a great way to extend your walking in the area. If you head a short distance east from the park you can visit Milford Common where there's some nice trails through grassland and woodland to try.
The Open Street Map below shows many of the cycle trails and walking trails you can try. The ones marked in blue are the mtb trails and include the Twist and Shout, Rock N' Rollers, and the Stegosaurus. The Cross Chase Walk is also shown heading south west from the visitor centre through the forest.

Pubs/Cafes
The Barley Mow pub is located right next to Milford Common. It's ideally situated for some post walk refreshments. There's a good menu and an outdoor seating area for warmer days. You can find it at 28 Main Road with a postcode of ST17 0UW for your sat navs.
Dog Walking
As you'd imagine the miles of wide forest paths are ideal for dog walking. The park also includes a dog activity trail which you can find on Pingle Slade on the Lady Hill Trail.
Further Information and Other Local Ideas
The Birches Valley area is located just a few miles south east of the park. The site includes a visitor centre, car park, walking paths, mountain bike trails, a Go Ape adventure park and a series of delightful tranquil pools.
Other features in the park include:-
> Segway Tours: for those looking for a unique way to explore the park, there are Segway tours available, which take visitors on a guided tour of the park's highlights.
> The Cannock Chase Museum - The museum provides an insight into the history and ecology of the area, and the role the park played in the First and Second World Wars.
The Penkridge Walk visits the park from the nearby market town. It's a nice way of visiting the site from the town, following the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal and the Staffordshire Way past the old Teddesley Hall Park to the site. The town is also worth exploring with a Grade I listed medieval church, the Penkridge Viaduct and the Old Market Square to see. Gailey Reservoir, the home of South Staffordshire Sailing Club, is located just to the south of the town.
Just a couple of miles to the south you'll find the Hednesford Hills. It's an interesting place for a walk with heathland trails, a popular stock car race track and the Museum of Cannock Chase where you can learn all about the mining history of the area.

Cannock Chase Country Park. The park includes an excellent adventure playground featuring a zip-line, a climbing wall, and other play structures.
The heathland is home to plants such as heather, bilberry, and gorse, which thrive in the sandy soils of the area. During late summer, the heath turns into a sea of purple as the heather blooms. Rare species like the bog asphodel and sundew can also be found in wetter areas. The woodlands are dominated by conifers, oak, and birch, while the understory supports ferns, mosses, and wildflowers like bluebells in spring. Wetlands in Cannock Chase provide habitats for sedges, rushes, and water-loving plants such as yellow iris.

The park's fauna is also rich, with notable species including fallow deer and muntjac deer, which are commonly seen in the area. Birds such as woodlarks, nightjars, and skylarks are iconic to the heathland, while woodpeckers, nuthatches, and owls inhabit the forests. The wetlands attract dragonflies, damselflies, and amphibians such as frogs and newts. The area is also important for butterflies, including the small heath and silver-studded blue.
The Visitor Centre and Cafe at Marquis Drive in Cannock Chase Country Park is the starting point of various self-guided walking and family cycling routes, including special routes for disabled people. The Centre features the industrial heritage and flora and fauna of the Chase

The area also features walking and cycling trails, offering visitors the chance to enjoy its stunning landscapes and encounter its wildlife.
