Burgh Le Marsh Walks

5.6 miles (9 km)

Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap This circular walk explores the countryside around Burgh Le Marsh in Lincolnshire.
The town is situated on a slight rise in the otherwise flat landscape of the Lincolnshire Fens, offering views across the surrounding countryside. The area is characterised by open farmland, drainage dykes, and distant glimpses of the Wolds to the west. The town is known for its historic windmill, Dobson’s Mill, a five-sailed mill that stands as a prominent local landmark.
Nearby, the landscape transitions from arable fields to marshland, reflecting the area’s historical connection to the now-drained coastal wetlands. The countryside around Burgh le Marsh is rich in birdlife, with species such as lapwings, kestrels, and barn owls often seen hunting over the fields. The wetlands and dykes provide habitats for herons, egrets, and water voles.
The town’s setting also allows easy access to the Lincolnshire coast, with Skegness just a few miles away. The coastline features sandy beaches, dunes, and nature reserves such as Gibraltar Point, where saltmarshes and mudflats attract migrating waders and wildfowl. The combination of low-lying fenland, historic sites, and proximity to the coast makes Burgh le Marsh a distinctive part of the Lincolnshire landscape.
You can continue your walking in the area by visiting the historic Gunby Hall or heading to Skegness on the coast.
