This walk takes you around the attractive grounds of the historic Crom Castle Estate on the shores of Upper�Lough Erne�in�County Fermanagh.
The National Trust owned estate includes a number of fine walking paths offering fine views over the lake.
The estate is a haven of natural beauty, with rolling parkland, mature woodlands, and tranquil shorelines. As you explore, you'll encounter a variety of ancient trees, including some of the oldest yews in Ireland, adding a timeless charm to the landscape. The paths meander through a rich mosaic of habitats, offering opportunities to spot wildlife such as deer grazing in the woods or red squirrels darting through the trees.
Along the shores of Upper Lough Erne, the views are particularly captivating, with serene waters dotted with small islands. These islands provide nesting sites for many waterbirds, including great crested grebes, herons, and swans. In the summer, dragonflies and damselflies flit over the water, adding a splash of colour and movement to the scene. You may also catch sight of otters playing along the banks or hear the distinctive call of a cuckoo in the spring.
The Crom Castle Estate is also steeped in history, with the ruins of the Old Crom Castle providing a fascinating glimpse into the past. Built in the 17th century, these evocative remains stand as a testament to the estate's heritage. Nearby, you'll find the impressive 19th-century Crom Castle, still privately owned but an iconic feature of the area.
