Dinas Dinlle Coastal Walk

2.5 miles (4 km)

Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap This walk visits the ancient hillfort and beautiful beach at Dinas Dinlle in Gwynedd, north-west Wales. There is a car park in the village just north of the site. From here you can follow footpaths south up to the fort before heading north along the coast to the nearby Caernarfon Airport.
The area surrounding the hillfort and beach is exceptional for its natural and historical significance. The hillfort dates back to the Iron Age and provides a spectacular view over the surrounding coastline and the bay. The fort itself offers a glimpse into the region's ancient past, with its strategic position being an excellent vantage point for observing the surrounding lands and sea.
As you wander along the path, you’ll encounter spectacular views of the bay and the nearby mountains. The distant peaks of Snowdonia are just visible on clear days, and the seaward views offer an ever-changing panorama of the Irish Sea.
You can continue your walking by heading east to the nearby Glynllifon Country Park.

It shows the beach, which has gained the Blue Flag Award, and which consists of pebbles at the top and fine sand lower down (here hidden by the high tide). It is a popular venue for wind surfing. There are several cafes and shops in the village.

Dinas Dinlle

Dinas Dinlle. The walk takes you through a mix of coastal grassland and heath, where sea buckthorn and gorse bushes provide texture to the landscape. In spring and summer, the wildflowers add vibrant colours, including poppies, clover, and birds-foot trefoil. Along the beach, the sandy expanse is home to salt-tolerant plants like sea bindweed and sea rocket, while the rocky sections host a variety of marine species.
Birdlife is abundant in the region, with seabirds such as gulls and waders frequently observed along the shore. The area is also an important stop for migratory birds, making it a prime location for birdwatching throughout the year. Small mammals, such as rabbits and voles, are common in the grassland, and the occasional sighting of a fox or a red squirrel is possible among the wooded areas.
