Haughton Country Park - Alford, Aberdeenshire
Enjoy a short stroll around the pretty Haughton Country Park in Alford, Aberdeenshire. Highlights in the park include a sequence of peaceful woodland trails and a lovely riverside walking path along the River Don which runs along the north eastern edge of the park. This area also contains a wildflower meadow and the grand Haughton House mansion. There are also wide grassy lawns perfect for a picnic.
The park is located about twenty five miles west of the City of Aberdeen. Just to the south of the park is the Alford Valley Narrow Gauge Railway where you can catch a steam train on the first Sunday of each month.
To continue your walking in the Aberdeen area, head east and visit Kirkhill Forest. There's miles of good waymarked trails with hill climbs and great viewpoints to be found here.
You could also head to the nearby Bennachie Forest where there's more fine trails with some challenging climbs in the Bennachie Hills to enjoy too.

In Duthie Park in Aberdeen you can pick up the popular Deeside Way. The shared cycling and walking route runs along a disused railway between Aberdeen and Ballater.

Train to Haughton Country Park. The Lang Stracht with caution via a level crossing, the guard on the rear having indicated to the driver by walkie-talkie that the road was clear in both directions.

Haughton Park Stone Circle beside River Don. Stone circle between Haughton House and bridge over River Don at Montgarrie. Located on the northern side of the park.
Haughton House, Alford. Haughton House is now part of a country park, which includes a caravan site.

Alford Transport Museum on the southern side of the park. Its exhibits chart the history of transport in the north east of Scotland through dramatic displays, working and climb-aboard vehicle exhibits and video presentations.
Alford Train. This narrow gauge railway links the village and Haughton Country Park. It runs alongside Knowehead Burn and the golf course.
