Honister Pass Slate Mine Walk
This circular walk explores the old quarries of the old Honister Pass Slate Mines before climbing to Fleetwith Pike for excellent views over the Lake District mountains. The historic site is notable as the last working slate mine in England and dates back to 1728. It's also a major Lake District tourist attraction with mine tours and the exhilirating Infinity Bridge where you can edge your way across a gorge 1,000 feet above sea level.
The walk starts off from the car park and visitor centre at the Honister Slate Mine.
From the centre you head west to Bell Craggs, the Hopper Slate Quarry and the Dubs Quarry.
You continue round to Wanscale Bottom where you can see some picturesque waterfalls on the Wanscale Beck. At Gatesgarth Farm you turn east to pass along Fleetwith Edge to Fleetwith Pike.
You then descend through the Honister quarries before returning to the car park.
