This walk visits the Kerry Cliffs near the village of Portmagee in County Kerry.
The walk takes you along cliff top paths to a fine viewpoint with views to Valentia Island and the other nearby islands.
The route begins at the car park next to Blasket View House, a few miles south of Portmagee. A well-maintained gravel path gradually ascends towards the edge of the cliffs. As you climb, the sound of the Atlantic waves crashing far below and the brisk sea breeze set the stage for an unforgettable experience.
Upon reaching the cliff-top, you are rewarded with panoramic views that stretch across the vast expanse of the ocean. The vistas include the rugged coastline, with layers of ancient rock formations and steep drops that testify to the area’s dramatic geological history. On clear days, the famous Skellig Islands, including Puffin Island and the larger Skelligs, can be seen in the distance, adding a magical quality to the landscape.
The walk features several viewing platforms strategically placed along both the northern and southern edges of the cliffs.
