Moses Gate Country Park
This large country park in Bolton covers 750 acres and includes a number of splendid cycling and walking trails. The River Croal and River Irwell run through the park and there are 3 pretty lakes, so there is some lovely waterside walking and cycling to enjoy. The park is excellent for bird watching with a bird hide next to one of the lakes.
Facilities in the park include a visitor centre and some excellent play areas for children. The park is located just a few miles south of Bolton next to Moses Gate train station.
If you would like to continue your walking in the area then you could head a couple of miles south and visit Blackleach Country Park. Here you'll find a nice walking trail along a pretty lake with lots of birdlife to look out for.
Also nearby is Clifton Country Park. Located alongside the River Irwell the park contains walking and cycling trails with features including a pretty lake, woodland, meadows and an arboretum.

Pubs/Cafes
A seasonal ice cream van appears at the site during the warmer months. You can pick up basic refreshments here. The Railway pub is located just to the west of the park next to the train station. To the east there's the Jolly Carter which has a good menu and a garden area to sit out in. You can find them at 168 Church St, Little Lever, with a postcode of BL3 1BW for your sat navs.
Dog Walking
The river and parkland trails are ideal for dog walking so you're likely to see other owners on your visit. It's best to keep them on leads as there is a lot of birdlife in the park. The Jolly Carter mentioned above also welcomes dogs in the vault area and beer garden provided they are on a lead.
Further Information and Other Local Ideas
Just to the east of the park you can pick up the popular Irwell Sculpture Trail. The waymarked footpaths takes you along the River Irwell with lots of sculptures and wildlife to see on the way. If you follow it south it will take you to Clifton Country Park.
