Schull Walks

1.1 miles (1.7 km)

Open Streetmap This walk visits the town of Schull on the south-west coast of County Cork.
The town includes a lovely footpath running along the harbour with fine views across the water.
Schull is known for its lively yet relaxed atmosphere, colourful shopfronts, and stunning sea views. The town is set along the shores of Roaringwater Bay, with a backdrop of rolling hills and distant islands. Small cafés, pubs, and artisan shops line the streets, adding to the village’s welcoming character.
A stroll along Schull Harbour is a peaceful and scenic experience. The waterfront path offers views of moored fishing boats and yachts bobbing in the sheltered bay. The sea air carries the calls of seabirds, and the water shimmers with changing light, especially in the evening. As you walk, you’ll pass the town pier, a popular spot for watching boats come and go, and on clear days, you can see as far as Cape Clear Island and the Fastnet Rock lighthouse in the distance.
Continuing along the shoreline, you might spot seals resting on the rocks or kayakers gliding across the bay. The walk is calm and refreshing, with the gentle sounds of lapping waves and the distant hum of activity from the town. The combination of natural beauty and maritime charm makes a walk along Schull Harbour a truly enjoyable experience.
To continue your walking around Schull head west to Mizen Head. The headland is traditionally regarded as the most southerly point of mainland Ireland. The stunning coastal area includes the Mizen Head Signal Station & Visitor Centre where you can learn all about this special area.
